Packaging and Sizing of Wallpaper

Wallpaper comes in different lengths and widths and, although usually priced by the single roll, it is packaged as double rolls by the manufacturer. People may find this packaging versus pricing situation hard to understand.

However, wallpaper is packaged this way because double rolls provide more usable wallpaper than single rolls. Therefore, wallpaper is priced by the single roll, but packaged and sold in double rolls only. When ordering wallpaper you must order in even number increments.
Note: This does not apply to borders because they are packaged in 15 foot spools, so you can order any number of borders.

If wallpaper is packaged in a double roll, why do I have to order in single rolls in even numbers?

This is a standard that was set by the wallpaper industry since the introduction of wallpaper to the retail market. The manufacturer's have always priced it by the single roll, but packaged and sold it by the double roll. If you look in the back of any wallpaper sample book, you will see the prices given are for single rolls. We have just followed the system set up by the manufacturers, so not to cause more confusion.

Important things to note:

*When ordering wallpaper, it is always a good idea to order one more roll than you think you will need. Extra wallpaper allows for a margin of error during hanging, will help avoid the problem of finding the same dye lot or printing run when reordering to complete a project, and will allow extra for repairs if the wallpaper on the wall gets damaged.

*Wallpapers can be manufactured in different widths -- primarily due to different equipment in different factories. Wallpaper is normally either 20 1/2" wide or 27" wide. The length varies according to the width, but a double roll of wallpaper contains approximately 56 square feet of wallpaper.

*Some wallpapers, such as the paintable type, are sold as bolts (rather than double rolls). In that case the pricing listed is for a bolt rather than a single roll. This is noted on each item on our website that this applies to.
